The Learning Tower we got for Valentine's Day is as awesome as I had hoped and dreamed. No more Penelope standing on a chair with the possibility of her cracking her head open at any moment.
She LOVES to stir and help. I put about a cup of dried lentils in a bowl and she stirred them for a good 15 minutes.
And then she thought it would be a good idea to dump my entire bottle of Paprika onto the floor and counter. Oh well, the mess is so worth it. And yes, that is a Cuisinart food processor circa 1983 that I bought at a garage sale for $10 and works like a charm.
I love having her in the kitchen with me and hope it continues for the rest of her life. I hope that she will never have to go through what I went though/still go through in regards to having to teach myself how to cook. I really believe that part of being a good parent is not only feeding our children healthy foods, but teaching our children how to actually prepare and cook healthy foods for themselves one day.
But that's a topic for another day. Today just want to say GO GET A LEARNING TOWER!!!
We LOVED our learning tower too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've wanted one of these for so long. But my husband thinks they look flimsy and thinks they'll easily fall apart with water damage and messy toddlers.
ReplyDeleteHappily, my kids are super tall. So a stool (with non-slip grippies) seems to work well enough.
We equally love our learning tower. The older Rita Clare gets, the more I love it. It's so nice to feel like they are safe, instead of worrying about tipping over (or helping them to learn to stand on chairs).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great endorsement! We are glad to hear you are enjoying your learning tower so much. It will grow with Penelope for many years to come!
ReplyDeleteThe Learning Tower seems like a good idea, but way out of our budget right now, maybe in the next year or two I will get one, but with K being only a year old, I don't think right now is the right time.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I can't wait to have my little helper in the kitchen with me helping me cook and bake. It'll be like a dream come true. I never got to help my mom cook at all, so my MIL is always teaching me something new. I hope to use my knowledge to teach my daughter as well!
HI there. I just found your blog through pintrest and really like it. My son is only 13 mo's but I keep saying I need something like the learning tower- I actually didn't know it existed. So many times he just wants to be up where I am so he can watch what I am doing. I am am wondering through, if it's worth the investment. How long did you mama use it with your children?
ReplyDelete@Sheri..if you google online, there are plans and tutorials on how to make one yourself. My husband wanted to make one, but his projects take like a full year to accomplish since he is so lazy, that I didn't want to wait for him. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kara! So glad you are here! I think it is totally worth it! I am pretty sure you can use till like age 4 or 5. It also comes with attachments to turn it into a play house, a puppet theater and an art easel. I highly recommend it!
wow, thanks for suggesting the DIY approach. My husband and I found a lot of great ideas, and I think it is going to be our weekend project next weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe use a bench that came with our corner nook. Both of my girls (2 and 4) share a spot next to the counter as they put chopped veggies into the pan as I'm cooking. I agree, though. I absolutely LOVE having my two helpers around to absorb everything I know about cooking!
