Handmade Christmas Coat and Bonnet

Just had to share these pics! My great, grandmother made this coat and bonnet for me when I was a baby. She also handmade my baptism gown that Penelope wore.  I am so happy to have these treasures for Penelope.

And now that I can sew, I can really appreciate this coat and bonnet! I wish I could sew as good as Mary.

Her sewing skills were perfection! She was so, so talented. She loved to make elaborate doll clothes, and I was her live baby doll for awhile!

It fits Penelope perfectly! The sleeves are a little long, but they look pretty cute folded up.

The bonnet was pretty intricate, at least for my skill level, with lace on the inside where it frames her face.

Oh, the love of my life, this one is! She loves to play peek-a-boo! We were headed to see Santa on this morning, which she is not a fan of, she burst out into tears as soon as he looked at her.

Anyway, just thought all you crafty readers would appreciate it!

  1. Very cute!! I have a lot of handmade dresses and things for my daughter that my great-grandmother made for me. I love to put her in them. :)

My great-grandmother would also make a matching dress for my Cabbage Patch Kid, too. Such treasures!

  2. That is awesome! Do you have a special way of keeping them when they are not in use? I want to preserve everything so they are in perfect condition for her daughter one day.
