Canvas Rainbow Playroom DIY

I had so much fun doing this project. It was time consuming, because I had to do several layers for each canvas.  But like the ABC wall art, I did it a little bit a time and went slowly, doing a bit when I could. I found this is the best way to do projects in my post-baby life.


Leave it all out and work on it when you can.  But of course, if you go this route, you have to be ok with a little bit of mess for awhile.  Which is hard for me, because I like a tidy house, with everything in its place.


My original inspiration came from the photo below.  You can see my full board here.  I loved this picture so much and wanted to do something as big as the picture.  But there was so much going on in Penelope's new playroom that I need to scale it down to make it work. And to make it more cost effective.  Big canvases like that are expensive!

I used plan old acrylic paint.  I had about half the bottles and bought the other half.  These bottles can be kind of expensive, almost $3 a bottle, but you will use them for a long time.

If I had bought all the bottles, I probably would have used different paint colors, but I am still pretty pleased with the color palate.

These mini canvases came in a pack of three.  So I bought 5 packs for a total of 15.  A friend of mine had the great idea, of using felt instead!

Once they were all painted and dried, I had fun rearranging them on the floor to figure out what configuration I liked best.

Then I put them up on the wall with velcro.  I put them right over her art table. So she likes to get up on her table and then pull them down. Which honestly, makes my skin crawl, because its just one more thing to clean up. But it is so beautiful to look at it, and we use it as a learning tool to learn her colors, that it is so worth it!

Sleeping Baby Feet

As I mentioned in the ABC post,  I have been beginning to play around with taking pictures not in Auto.  I have always loved and admired good photography, but I wasn't expecting it to feel so good.  Before when I took pictures in Auto, I never really felt like I could claim ownership of the photo, even if it was a great shot.

But now I feel like I am making art!  Art, that I can claim full ownership of.  And I am also messing around with some post editing features, and I really do get that same high of when I sew something.  That, "look what I made!" feeling.

So anyway, aren't my sweet baby's, sleeping feet, delicious?

Cool Art at My Parents House

 

This is kind of a lazy post today. I have five million things to catch up on and I am feeling oh, so, slightly overwhelmed. Not a lot of time for an in depth tutorial.  BUT, I do have some cool pictures to share.  I just got back from my parents house. I went down for a visit, so I could get some rest.  I have been fighting a type of pneumonia for almost three weeks now and my husband works his tail off at work and thus, is no help to me at home. 

I normally do not like to go to my parents house. It stresses me out.  I have talked about it cryptically here before, but my mother was not the best mother, she is mentally unstable to say the least.  She is trying very hard these days and I giving it my all to have a relationship with her, but still it's tough.  One of the things that stresses me out, is she has a ton of "stuff".  Empty shelf space and wall space, make her nervous.  She needs to fill them.  Then she likes to rearrange everything.  Nothing is ever in the same place it was the last time I saw it, which now as adult that just visits, is sort of annoying, but as a child it was pretty traumatic. Some days, I couldn't even find a spoon to feed myself some cereal. She loves garage sales and is constantly bringing hoards of things home from them. She has gotten much, much better over years, but when I was a kid, we could have been on that show Hoarders.

BUT, if you look closely, there are some cool things at their house.  Here are my favorites.

Baby Finger Painting Art Project: Part 1

For Peter's first Father's Day, I wanted to make him something special and handmade. I set up the kitchen floor for Penelope to go crazy with the finger paints. It was her very first art session! I taped a plastic tarp down, and then taped several pieces white art paper to the tarp. Then I put four plastic paint containers out, each with a different color. I added a paint brush to each container.
























We used eco-friendly, non-toxic paints and Penelope went to town!























She managed to get as much on her body as she did on the paper.

Cleaning up! I will show you guys the finished product on Tuesday.
